What a beautiful cool day it was Mar 17th, 2026. I remember getting up early to walk my dogs Scooter and Bingo, and the temperature was right around 65°F, not too bad if you asked me at the moment. When I had arrived to Eagle's Nest to begin my daily routine, I noticed the thermostat in my car was reading the temperature at 58°F! That's almost 10 degrees lower than when I was AT HOME!

I mention the weather and temp because it's relevant when it comes to our friends in the animal kingdom, particularly those in the cold-blooded species, like reptiles. When it gets VERY cold, reptiles have a tendency to "seize up," especially if they're ones that DON'T belong to the cooler sub tropical region that we live in. This "seizing" that happens to our reptilian friends, makes they vulnerable to predators (easy to catch) and sometimes they'll even fall right out of the tree they've made their HOME!

Well, Mr. Zack had some trash to throw in the dumpster and would you know it? A lizard called Knight Anole was hanging out RIGHT there next to the gate on the fence post. So Mr. Zack figured, he must've fallen from his tree, for surely there's NOTHING on the fence post for him to eat. At least nothing he would possibly enjoy. Sooo Mr. Zack being Mr. Zack, CAUGHT Mr. Lizzy the Lizard showed him to various classes, he made sure to handle Mr. Lizzy the Lizard with respect and gentleness, when he was done showing the classes and taking some funny pictures, he was sure to return Mr. Lizard to his tree house near where he had found him.

Knight Anoles are the big brother to the brown anole (those little lizards with the narrow pointy heads.) knight anoles can grow up to 20 INCHES LONG!!! They are invasive but not as damaging to our ecosystem as other species of reptiles we have here in Southwest Florida. Their dietary habits mostly consist of bugs, plants and sometimes other lizards.
